Walk/Ride to School

Parents, do you hate waiting in the traffic for drop-off and pick-up? Do you wish you didn’t have to wait for the bus?  Have you ever thought your student would benefit from a little exercise before needing to sit still in class? Lynchburg is a small enough town that many students could walk or ride a bike to school. It’s healthy for your child and saves money. Many neighborhoods around our elementary schools have sidewalks that are perfect for short legs, scooters and bikes. Don’t forget helmets if your child is on wheels.

The brand new extension of the Blackwater Creek Trail now allows many more students to walk or ride to school! While many children zoned for Linkhorne Elementary and Middle School may have previously felt school was too far, this simple extension from the Ed Page entrance on Langhorne Road (at the Greek Orthodox Church, perpendicular from Link Road) follows the train trestle over Langhorne directly to the Linkhorne campus. 

If it seems far, or you need help with supervision, consider developing a walking school bus where different families can join forces to help students walk to school safely!
